Mark Sainsbury
PartnerAbout Mark
Mark is an experienced defendant insurance lawyer who has acted for insured and insurer clients for the duration of his career. Mark's experience spans defending both professional indemnity and public liability claims across a variety of industries, with particular focus on defending claims arising from within the legal, financial, construction and medical arenas.
What he does
As a result of managing the defence of claims from cradle to grave across multiple lines and industries, Mark has recognised the desire of clients to have claims managed in an efficient and commercial manner that directly relates to the industry from which the claim emanates.
Mark approaches the defence of each claim with a focus on both the industry and the client and attempts to implement a pragmatic pathway to efficient claim resolution.
Who he works with
Mark works with local and overseas based insurers and re-insurers, large and small insured entities within applicable deductibles, large self-insured entities, and uninsured entities and individuals, across a variety of industries including construction, hospitality and leisure, aviation, banking and finance, legal and medical.
Qualifications
Mark has a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice and a Bachelor of Laws (Hons II) from the Queensland University of Technology. He also holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Queensland. Mark is admitted as a solicitor to the High Court of Australia and Supreme Court of Queensland.
Life before Sparkes
Before joining the firm, Mark worked as the claims counsel and team leader of an in-house legal division of Triton Global (Australia). In this role, Mark was responsible for managing and defending public liability claims (under the PIPA pre-court protocol) for insurer clients and large insureds.
Before joining Triton, Mark worked exclusively in the insurance group at Cooper Grace Ward Lawyers. He was responsible for defending claims across professional indemnity and public liability insurance lines and gained considerable experience defending medical negligence claims, claims against solicitors and claims involving the aviation industry.
Life outside of Sparkes
Mark is kept busy outside of work trying to keep up with his young children. In between transporting the kids to and from various dance and sporting activities on the weekend, Mark tries to find time to swing a golf club or take the family to the Sunshine Coast for some beach action.
