Mark specialises in professional indemnity and directors' and officers' claims and has been involved in some of Australia's most notable PI and D&O claims. He also has an interest in clinical negligence claims, reinsurance disputes and cyber issues. Mark is the current chairman and a director of Lloyd's Australia Limited.
What he does
Mark advises insurers and insureds on professional indemnity matters, directors' and officers' (D&O) claims and cyber risk. He conducts medico-legal and clinical negligence claims for a number of leading private hospitals, medical negligence insurers and one of the world's leading dental-legal organisations.
Mark also acts in almost all aspects of reinsurance including coverage, arbitration claims and commutation works.

Mark works closely with Australian and UK based insurers and underwriters and their insured entities, as well as reinsurers and reinsureds.

Qualifications
Mark has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of New South Wales, a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Sydney, a Master of Laws from the University of Sydney, a Master of Insurance & Risk Management from Deakin University, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the University of Technology Sydney. Mark is currently undertaking a Doctorate of Philosophy in Law and Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame.
Life before Sparkes
Before joining Sparke Helmore, Mark worked for a leading international insurance law practice in London. He was also a partner at an international law firm for six years, working in Sydney, and a partner for two years at an Australian based firm.
Life outside of Sparkes
Mark lectures extensively in the field of professional indemnity insurance. He runs the national ANZIIF course Understanding Professional Indemnity Insurance and the two master classes of Advanced Professional Indemnity Claims and Advanced Directors' & Officers' Claims. Mark has also taught at the School of Law at the University of Sydney and is currently lecturing at the University of Notre Dame.
Mark also devotes his time to the Coogee Surf Life Saving Club, where he is the current residing President.
