Maxine is a safety and disputes lawyer who works with private and public sector clients, including employers and insurers. She leads our State Compensation team in Canberra.
Maxine specialises in common law and statutory claims arising from work incidents, work health and safety (WHS) matters, coronial inquests, workplace behaviour and code of conduct matters. She advises on litigated and non-litigated matters, investigations and inquiries, regulatory compliance and audit, risk management and merits review.
Maxine has extensive advocacy and dispute resolution experience and has appeared in various state and territory courts and tribunals. She regularly provides training for clients.
Maxine has been acknowledged as a leading Government lawyer and Insurance lawyer in AFR's Best Lawyers 2019.
Maxine works with public and private sector corporate clients. She has undertaken several in-house secondments working directly with legal and operational line areas.
Maxine has a Master of Laws and Bachelors of Asian Studies and Law from the Australian National University. She holds a Lead Auditor qualification in WHS Management Systems, and a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
Before finishing law school, Maxine worked summer holidays as an industrial equities analyst in Sydney. She has joined Sparke Helmore from Proximity Legal, and has also practised at Norton Rose Fulbright and Minter Ellison. Maxine was previously part of Sparke Helmore's Insurance team, from 2002 to 2005
Maxine is good at, but prefers not to, chip barnacles from oysters on the family farm. She has volunteered with the ACT Rural Fire Service since 2004.
