Julian, who is named on the Best Lawyers in Australia list, has more than 26 years' experience in insurance law and expertise in casualty, liability, construction risk and products liability.
Julian is also recommended as a Leading Professional Indemnity Lawyer in NSW in the 2017 Doyle's Guide.
What he does
Julian provides advice on large and complex building and engineering claims, claims against individuals in the corrective and detention services industries, as well as products liability claims for insurers, insureds, captives and corporates. He also has experience in first party property claims, including fire and arson, industrial special risks, fidelity claims and litigated recoveries arising from those claims.
Julian also acts for insurers in the defence of contested declinatures, proceedings involving non-disclosure, and proceedings under the Insurance Contracts Act 1984 (Cth).

Julian works with insurers across a range of industries, including construction, engineering and corrective and detention services.
Qualifications
Julian has a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws from Macquarie University. He also holds a Master of Laws in Commercial and Taxation Law from the University of NSW.
Julian is an Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury Law. He is also a member of the Australian Insurance Law Association, the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance, and the Law Society of New South Wales.
Life before Sparkes
Before joining Sparke Helmore, Julian was a partner at HWL Ebsworth, where he spent 12 years. Before that he spent five years at PwC, also as a partner.
Life outside of Sparkes
Julian has delivered guest lectures on insurance law to postgraduate students undertaking their Master of Laws at the University of New South Wales. Outside the office, he enjoys live music and getting out in the fresh air, whether cycling, bushwalking or playing sport.
