Ben is a workplace lawyer who specialises in employment, industrial relations, safety, regulatory compliance, and general litigation. Ben’s work in these areas sees him involved in a broad range of matters, including employment and industrial disputes, collective bargaining applications, restraint of trade matters, workplace investigations, safety incidents and prosecutions, safety reviews, coronial inquests, and judicial and merits reviews.
What he does
Ben does a mix of litigation, advisory, and investigatory work. He appears regularly on behalf of clients in a variety of court and tribunal jurisdictions, most commonly in the Federal Courts, the Supreme Court of NSW, the District Court of NSW, and the Fair Work Commission. Ben also appears as prosecutor in regulatory matters on behalf of statutory authorities.
More generally, Ben works with clients to assist them to manage the various issues that arise in the workplace, including by advising on compliance and acting as investigator in workplace matters.

Ben works with a broad range of clients, including medium-to-large corporations and Commonwealth and State Government entities.
Qualifications
Ben has a Bachelor of Law and a Bachelor of Communications (majoring in Journalism) from the University of Technology, Sydney.
Life before Sparkes
Ben worked as an Associate to a Member of the Fair Work Commission and, before that, at another commercial law firm and community legal organisations, Justice Connect and the Shopfront Youth Legal Centre.
Life outside of Sparkes
Ben enjoys martial arts, running, chess, sport-watching of all kinds, and afternoon naps.
