Tess is an experienced litigator whose practice spans a broad range of dispute, including professional indemnity claims, financial lines matters, directors’ and officers’ (D&O) liability claims, strata and property disputes and other commercial litigation. She predominantly acts for solicitors in professional negligence matters but also has experience acting for and defending claims against a range of other professionals, including financial services, property services and building industries.
What she does
Tess advises insurers and insured professionals on a wide range of professional indemnity and directors' and officers' (D&O) liability matters. She has experience handling complex policy coverage issues, indemnity disputes and the defence of professional liability claims across a variety of industries.
She also advises and represents professionals in regulatory complaints, investigations, and disciplinary proceedings. Tess provides strategic, commercially focused advice throughout all stages of a matter, from early coverage assessments and dispute resolution through to litigation and trial.
Who she works with
Tess acts for professional indemnity and financial lines insurers and their insureds, including company directors and a variety of professionals such as solicitors, financial planners, licenced property service professionals, building industry professionals and health professionals.
Qualifications
Tess holds a Bachelor of Communication (Social and Political Sciences) and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Technology Sydney.
Life before Sparkes
Tess started her career at a boutique law firm, where she acted for insurers defending property damage claims and advised owners corporations in relation to strata and property disputes.
Life outside of Sparkes
When she’s not defending professional negligence claims, Tess swaps insurance policies for quality time with her husband, young daughter and their hyperactive Cavoodle. She enjoys exploring Sydney's ever-evolving dining scene and tracking down the latest must-try restaurants. When life is not getting in the way, you’ll find her chasing winter across the world and hitting up the slopes (or at least staring longingly at her skis). A passionate skier, she loves carving through untouched powder and venturing beyond the groomed runs in search of her next great off-piste adventure.
