Nell is a senior dispute resolution and insolvency lawyer. She has a particular focus on contentious personal and corporate insolvency matters, as well as director and shareholder disputes, and debt recovery litigation.
What she does
Nell’s work spans a wide range of commercial disputes, including contract and debt recovery actions, Corporations Act disputes, and all aspects of corporate and personal insolvency matters. She regularly appears in New South Wales courts at all levels, and in the Federal Court and the bankruptcy division of the Federal Circuit and Family Court. Nell is a strong proponent of utilising alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to achieve efficient and effective results for her clients.

Nell’s clients include SMEs, directors, shareholders, lenders and some of Australia’s leading insolvency practitioners.
Qualifications
Nell has a Diploma in Law from the Legal Profession Admission Board and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice. Nell is a professional member of the Australian Restructuring, Insolvency & Turnaround Association, and she holds an Advanced Certification in Insolvency.
She is admitted to practice in England and Wales, as well as New South Wales and the High Court of Australia.
Life before Sparkes
Nell joined Sparke Helmore in July 2020 with Laycock Burke Castaldi Lawyers, a boutique commercial and employment firm in Newcastle. In the past, she has worked at national firms in Newcastle and Sydney, and a top regional firm in the United Kingdom.
Life outside of Sparkes
Nell is a fanatical podcast listener, an avid cricket fan, and she enjoys volunteering. She makes consistently valiant attempts at enjoying these hobbies between being a taxi service for her three daughters and refereeing vigorous disputes such as “who is better: BlackPink or Taylor Swift”.
