Michael specialises in statutory litigation in both the state and Commonwealth jurisdictions. He has regularly been included on AFR's Best Lawyers Australia list, most recently in the 2019 edition (published 2018).
What he does
Michael acts for employers and insurers in statutory litigation matters and provides strategic advice on minimising claims liability. He runs litigation in the AAT and Federal Court, as well as the South Australian Workers Compensation Tribunal and the District and Supreme Courts.
Who he works with
Michael acts for insurers, self-insurers, Commonwealth licensees, regulators and claims agents and leads one of only two teams appointed to WorkCoverSA for all of its claims litigation in South Australia.

Qualifications
Michael has a Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Laws degree from the Australian National University. He is admitted to the NSW, SA and NT Supreme Courts, as well as the High Court of Australia.
Life before Sparkes
Michael worked for a smaller firm in Pitt St, Sydney, which also specialised in statutory classes of litigation for insurers and self-insurers. He joined the Sparke Helmore Sydney office in 1998.
Life outside of Sparkes
Michael enjoys spending time with his family, rugby, dirt bike riding, travelling and eating out with friends.
