Jason Liu

What he does

Jason acts as a trusted advisor to his clients’ pre-contracts and contract management affairs. He engages with his clients’ functional stakeholders to understand their complex contracting problems and risk appetite before collaborating with them to provide plainer English advice and pragmatic solutions.

He is also a skilled empathetic negotiator, empowering mentor, and builder of collaborative buy-side, sell-side, and stakeholder working relationships.

Who he works with

Jason works with Commonwealth and State government agencies and various other clients that commonly deal with engineering and technology contracts.

Qualifications

Jason has a Master of Laws (Corporate, Commercial and Taxation Law) from the University of New South Wales, a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the College of Law, and a Bachelor of Laws (Second Class Honours) and Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from the University of Canberra.

He also is a Certified Advanced Practitioner for World Commerce and Contracting and holds Certificates IV in Government (Procurement and Contracting) and (Project Management).

Life before Sparkes

Before joining Sparke Helmore, Jason enjoyed a variety of legal and commercial roles. Before specialising in procurement and contract and commercial management, Jason began his career in corporate tax advisory within the Australian Taxation Office and Ernst & Young.

He subsequently switched specialisations and worked across the Department of Defence, NBN Co, BAE Systems Australia, WSP Australia, and an emerging start-up defence consultancy firm.

Life outside of Sparkes

Jason enjoys spending time with his gorgeous wife and cheeky dog and cat. Jason regularly attends outdoor bootcamp classes to stay fit, in addition to longer walks with said cheeky dog and the occasional running event. To offset calories burnt, he thoroughly enjoys exploring new foodie haunts, visiting dog friendly venues, rock and jazz performances, and traveling.
