Francesca brings a commercial and practical perspective to navigating the complexities of employment law and resolving workplace issues. She has broad experience advising clients in the public and private sectors in all aspects of employment law and industrial relations.
Francesca is also experienced in assisting with the defence of work health and safety prosecutions and responding to safety incidents.
What she does
Francesca regularly assists clients with employment issues throughout the employment life cycle. From ensuring compliance with policies and procedures and that employment agreements are fit for purpose at all levels of seniority, to interpreting modern awards, negotiating enterprise agreements, managing and investigating workplace complaints, managing ill and injured workers, and advising in relation to disciplinary action, performance management, the termination of employment, mutual separation, restructures, redundancies, mergers and acquisitions.
She advises on labour hire arrangements and the engagement of independent contractors and is experienced in responding to regulatory investigations.
Francesca also represents clients and regularly instructs counsel in legal proceedings in state and federal courts and tribunals such as unfair dismissal, general protections, bullying and discrimination claims, breach of contract and post-employment restraints.
Who she works with
Francesca works with legal counsel, HR teams and management in the private and public sectors, as well as not for profit organisations. Her clients vary in size and represent a diverse range of industries including, retail, aged care, community services, education, construction, mining, manufacturing, cleaning, and energy and gas.
Qualifications
Francesca holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts majoring in International Relations from the University of Queensland. She also holds a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the College of Law.
Life before Sparkes
Francesca gained her footing in employment and workplace relations at a specialist firm in Brisbane before working briefly in the public sector at the federal level. Prior to joining Sparke Helmore, she worked in the workplace relations and safety team at a national commercial law firm in Brisbane.
Life outside of Sparkes
Outside Sparkes, Francesca enjoys making the most of the outdoors in her sunny home state of Queensland by chasing white sand beaches, hiking, or visiting farms and nature reserves. She is an unabashed foodie and can be found trying new locales and testing recipes on her friends and large (sometimes brutally honest) Italian family.
