Quality and consistency through collaboration

Sparke Helmore is pleased to announce that Andrew White has been elected as National Managing Partner, commencing 1 March 2022.

Andrew is a commercial lawyer practising in primary industries.  He was Chair of the firm’s Board from 2018 until February this year, when he handed that baton to Roland Hassall.  Prior to that he was on the board for approximately two years.

Andrew joined Sparke Helmore in 2001.  With more than 25 years’ experience as a lawyer in New South Wales, he has also previously been company secretary and general counsel with a listed wine company.  Andrew takes an active role in pro bono and community activities. He co-founded the Upper Hunter Education Fund in 2008, which has provided more than $1,000,000 in financial and academic support to young people in the Hunter who are seeking tertiary education and might not otherwise have access to it. Andrew is also a member of the board of Ronald McDonald House Northern Board and other private board positions.

“I’m honoured to take on this role. As we are hopefully emerging from the most troublesome business effects of COVID, I am optimistic and excited to continue to develop Sparke Helmore’s position as a market-leading Australian national law firm.  With a wholehearted commitment to an inclusive culture and over 140 years behind us, we are focussed on remaining truly personable and expert advisers to, and partners of, our clients,” said Andrew.

Sparke Helmore’s Chair, Roland Hassall, said, "I’m really excited about Andrew’s appointment. We’ve worked together for 20 years, both at Sparke Helmore and when he was a client of the firm as in-house counsel. He was an exacting and thought-provoking client and I look forward to working closely with him, having experienced those qualities and his approach to challenges."

Roland continued, "I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Phillip Salem, the outgoing National Managing Partner.  Phillip led the firm for the past six years and has done so with a great deal of energy, courage and commitment.  The firm has evolved and prospered under his wise leadership, and his extremely steady hand during COVID in particular, and I'm very pleased that Phillip will be remaining with the firm."
