Nik is a construction, projects, and infrastructure lawyer who guides clients through every stage of a project's lifecycle, from inception to delivery. While his primary focus is back-end resolution, he also brings valuable front-end transactional experience. He advises principals, developers, contractors, sub-contractors, financiers, and high-net-worth individuals across a broad range of industry sectors, including mining, industrial, commercial and retail, residential and mixed-use developments, hospitals and educational facilities.
What he does
Nik represents clients across major residential and commercial developments, infrastructure projects, and complex supply chain matters involving plant, equipment and natural resources. He is experienced in the drafting and negotiating of various contracts, providing strategic advice and contract administration support, and managing all forms of dispute resolution including, compulsory conferences, mediations, adjudications, expert determinations, arbitrations, and litigation.

Nik works with mining companies, state-owned corporations, government departments and agencies, major developers, builders and sub-contractors, strata corporations, and consultants.
Qualifications
Nik holds a Bachelor of Arts (Double Major in Criminology and Politics) and a Bachelor of Laws from Monash University.
Life before Sparkes
Nik began his legal career in an in-house counsel role with a leading Australian property developer and residential builder. In this position, he maintained a dual advisory and dispute resolution practice, providing strategic legal support across a broad range of commercial and construction matters.
After more than six years of in-house experience, Nik returned to private practice at a prominent mid-tier firm in Melbourne. There, he advised and represented a diverse range of clients, including high-net-worth individuals, SMEs, volume builders, subcontractors, consultants, financiers, and developers, across all stages of project delivery and formal dispute resolution, including arbitration and litigation.
Nik has also acted for ASX-listed corporations in disputes relating to haulage, logistics, supply chains and other commercial service arrangements.
Life outside of Sparkes
Outside of work, Nik enjoys spending quality time with his family. As a former professional tennis player, he remains active in the sport. He also has a keen interest in modern history and politics and is an avid follower of both local and global affairs. When time permits, Nik enjoys watching stand-up comedy performances.
