About Jackson

With 20 years’ experience, Jackson is a highly regarded workplace, regulatory and safety lawyer. He leads Sparke Helmore’s Workplace Practice in Brisbane and is a Queensland Law Society Accredited Specialist in Workplace Law.

Jackson has extensive experience in all aspects of employment, regulatory and safety law, including responding to serious workplace incidents and regulatory investigations. He has a proven track record in getting results for his clients, and he is highly experienced in employment litigation matters before the Federal Circuit Court, Federal Court and Fair Work Commission, as well as safety matters in the Queensland jurisdiction.

What he does

Jackson’s clients value his experience and advice on the management of all aspects of managing workplace incidents, as well as dealing with and responding to regulators across all jurisdictions. He also advises clients on how to manage difficult employee and misconduct cases that warrant disciplinary action or termination of employment.

Jackson advises our clients on strategic industrial issues across a variety of sectors, as well as negotiations for national industrial agreements and he has engaged in Enterprise Bargaining with Unions and other bargaining representatives.


Who he works with

Jackson works with a vast range of the firm’s clients, from government to insurance and commercial. With his in-house background and deeper understanding of the pressures of a complex business environment, Jackson’s passion lies in helping clients work through the complexities of the current workplace and safety law environment.


Qualifications

Jackson holds a Bachelor of Arts from Griffith University, a Bachelor of Laws from Queensland University of Technology and a Master of Laws from University of Queensland.


Life before Sparkes

Since 2011, Jackson worked as the Australian and New Zealand General Counsel for the USA-based MAXIMUS Incorporated, a world leader in government contracting and business process outsourcing. Before that, he worked at large law firms in private practice.


Life outside of Sparkes

Jackson spends his time outside work with family and friends.  He also loves motorcycle touring in the outback and as a qualified formation and aerobatic pilot, Jackson often spends his weekends flying.
