Stephen’s background is as a corporate and commercial lawyer who also represented private clients in complex commercial litigation and dispute resolution matters before major courts and tribunals. Stephen’s experience covers many different industries and clients ranging from listed public companies to family businesses. Since joining Sparkes, Stephen has been using his skills and experience to advise the firm’s Government clients.
What he does
Stephen provides advice on major projects and commercial transactions including probity, procurement, tender and contract negotiation and management and risk management and compliance. Stephen also provides intellectual property advice.
Who he works with
Stephen works with Government departments and agencies and a well-known university.
Qualifications
Stephen has a Bachelor of Economics, Bachelor of Laws and Master of Laws from Monash University. He is a committee member of the Corporations Committee and Insolvency & Reconstruction Committee, Business Law Section, Law Council of Australia.
Life before Sparkes
Stephen was a partner with several large and boutique Australian law firms and before he joined Sparkes was the first General Counsel of BDO Chartered Accountants, one of the Big 6 global accounting and advisory firms.
Life outside of Sparkes
Stephen values spending time with his family and looking after the family’s two female ginger cats as well as catching up with friends. He has a keen interest in reading and learning about politics, history and world events and in discussing them with his children. He enjoys watching AFL and AFLW football, soccer, cricket and the NFL and anything with a sci-fi, fantasy and action theme. Music is a particular passion and he listens to an eclectic array of genres every chance he gets.
