Simon is an experienced corporate and commercial adviser with a focus on supporting public sector clients in meeting the needs of the community. Simon has over 20 years’ experience working with public and private sector clients on transaction and advisory engagements, in Australia and the UK.
What he does
Simon advises public sector entities on the delivery of new policy and projects as well as procurement design and implementation, covering contracting, process and integrity issues.
He regularly advises on governance issues, including advising entities on corporate authorisation, reporting and other regulatory requirements, advising corporate boards on compliance and liability issues and undertaking reviews of organisational culture and performance.
Simon has significant experience advising on corporate transactions in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors, including restructuring and sale transactions.
Who he works with
Simon primarily works with Commonwealth and New South Wales agencies and corporatised bodies, as well as NSW Local Government and University clients. Simon brings a unique understanding of the inner workings of government as an adviser and as a former senior official. He also works with not-for-profit clients involved in the delivery of services to the community.
Qualifications
Simon holds a Master of Laws degree from the University of Sydney, Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce degrees from the University of NSW, and he has completed Levels I – III of Chartered Financial Analyst Program.
Simon is admitted to practice in New South Wales, and England and Wales.
Life before Sparkes
Simon was formerly a Senior Executive Lawyer at Australian Government Solicitor within the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department and led the Sydney and Brisbane Commercial team. Simon commenced his career in private practice and has worked in leading firms in Australia and the UK.
Life outside of Sparkes
Simon enjoys getting outdoors and can be found on weekends exploring Sydney’s parks, beaches and cycle paths with his young children, or discovering the deeper meaning of the works of Dr. Seuss if it is raining.
