About Matthew

Matthew’s insurance practice includes personal injury, compulsory third party, TPD and family provision claims. He specialises in major and catastrophic personal injury matters, with a particular interest in brain injuries, spinal injuries and complex psychiatric conditions.

Matthew is an appointed member of the NSW Health Professional Council Authority.  He has been listed in the Doyle’s Guide as a Leading lawyer for Public and Products Liability, and a Preeminent  lawyer for CTP.

What he does

Matthew’s approach is characterised by exceptional communication skills, detailed forensic enquiry and an understanding of clients’ commercial imperatives.

Matthew is also an accomplished speaker and trainer, and regularly presents to his clients and colleagues.


Who he works with

Matthew has worked with all major insurers, many self-insureds and with superannuation trustees.


Qualifications

Matthew has a Bachelor of Science (Chiro) from RMIT and a Bachelor of Laws from University of Technology Sydney.


Life before Sparkes

Matthew joined Sparke Helmore from Curwoods Lawyers where he was a partner and Practice Group Leader of the Commercial Insurance Dispute Resolution group.

Before practising law, Matthew practised as a chiropractor and was a proprietor of four multi-disciplinary clinics. He draws on this experience when advising clients on medical issues and his business experience enables commercial pragmatism.


Life outside of Sparkes

Matthew has trained in traditional karate and Okinawan weapons for many years. He follows all football codes and particularly enjoys international soccer. He relaxes by reading and spending time with family and friends.
