Marie is a senior commercial lawyer with extensive experience advising government agencies on procurement processes, contracting, negotiations, probity and governance, as well as experience in compliance, risk management, statutory interpretation and policy advice. In addition, Marie has had deep involvement in conducting major and complex litigation across various jurisdictions, including Tribunal and Supreme Court matters, and Royal Commissions.
What she does
Marie provides legal and probity advice to government clients on a range of major projects and commercial transactions, including procurement strategies and process, drafting and advising on the approach to market documentation, evaluations, negotiations, probity, compliance and tender and contract management. She also advises clients on the application of relevant policy and legislation, to ensure compliance and business and community confidence in the integrity of government procurement processes.

Marie works primarily on providing advice to large government departments and agencies at both a Commonwealth and state level.
Qualifications
Marie has a Bachelor of Arts (Politics), a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of Adelaide, and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from The Law Society of South Australia.
Life before Sparkes
Marie spent five years in private practice working in insurance and commercial litigation and over a decade working for a state government department in legal services, including advice and litigation, and procurement and contract law, statutory interpretation and policy, as well as knowledge management. Marie was also a Judges’ Associate to Judge Steven Millsteed K.C. at the District Court of South Australia.
Life outside of Sparkes
Marie has a long-standing interest in theatre and comedy stemming from her participation in theatre and law revues at university. Marie often attends the latest Melbourne Theatre Company production and is an avid supporter of local comedy in Melbourne. She has directed and produced several Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Melbourne Fringe comedy theatre productions over the years.
