Lara DouglasSenior Associate
Lara is a pragmatic insurance lawyer who has 10 years’ experience in the insurance and legal industry. Her clients have ranged from international and Australian corporate to SMEs clients and she believes strongly in working with her clients to bring about good resolutions. With a particular interest in the interplay between policies of insurance and legal frameworks, she is comfortable advocating for her clients across jurisdictions and in particular in the ACT and NSW.
What she does
Lara specialises in insurance litigation with a particular focus on personal injury claims, including complex multiparty claims. She regularly appears before the Personal Injury Commission and the ACT and NSW Courts. She has demonstrated experience negotiating good outcomes for her clients in formal and informal settings.
Lara also enjoys performing pro bono work in family and succession law for financially vulnerable and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) clients
Who she works with
Lara advises a wide range of clients including global and local insurers, self-insured organisations well as financially vulnerable and CALD individuals.
Lara holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Technology, Sydney and a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in the philosophy and the history and philosophy of science.
Life before Sparkes
Whilst living in Sydney, Lara managed national liability claims for a global insurer and was an international claims officer in the insurer’s global network. She moved to Canberra in 2015 and has began working for another insurance law firm soon after.
Life outside of Sparkes
Lara enjoys spending time with her family and often spends her weekends at Mt Stromlo with her bike mad son, blowing bubbles with her daughter or walking her gentle giant German shepherd. She loves getting lost in a good book and is known for having a pile of books beside her bed for any reading emergency. She is steadily ticking items on off her bucket list and is trying her hand at snowboarding.
