Kate assists medical indemnity insurers, healthcare practitioners and healthcare entities in responding to complaints to regulatory bodies, coroner’s requests for information and medical negligence claims.
What she does
Kate has experience in working in defendant insurance litigation and has also worked in-house for a medical indemnity insurer. She regularly advises on a wide range of legal matters, including responding to complaints to regulatory bodies such as the HCCC, navigating privacy issues, compliance with professional obligations, risk minimisation and defending litigated claims. She is passionate about helping clients achieve favourable outcomes efficiently and effectively.

Kate regularly works with medical practitioners, nurses, allied health professionals, hospitals, healthcare facilities and medical indemnity insurers.
Qualifications
Kate holds a Bachelor of Laws with Honours from Macquarie University. She is admitted to practice in New South Wales and to the High Court of Australia.
Life before Sparkes
Kate has 12 years’ experience working with health practitioners. She started her legal career at a government legal practice before moving to a defendant insurance law firm, where she defended Local Health Districts and visiting medical officers against litigated claims. A secondment led to a period working in-house for a medical indemnity insurer, where she developed her general advisory, regulatory complaint management and indemnity skills.
Life outside of Sparkes
In her spare time, Kate is either trying to keep up with her boys on a hiking trail or BMX track or enjoying the great outdoors at her local beach.
