Kate Barton
Senior AssociateAbout Kate
Kate is an experienced lawyer who started her career advising private and government clients on workers compensation and work injury damages and disputes. She dabbled in a more generalised liability insurance practice before making a career move into the aviation space. She hasn’t looked back, but rather has looked up, ever since.
What she does
Kate provides detailed and client-focussed advice, liaises confidently with clients and legal colleagues, and regularly appears in the District and Supreme Courts. She has expertise in alternative dispute resolution and drafting and responding to pleadings. Kate prides herself on mentoring other young lawyers to get the best out of their private practice experience.
Who she works with
Kate works directly with clients, together with their insurers and brokers, to ensure positive outcomes for their legal needs.
Qualifications
Kate holds a Juris Doctor and a Bachelor of International Relations from the Australian National University.
Life before Sparkes
Prior to Sparke Helmore, Kate worked as a swimming instructor before commencing private practice. She has since worked at a mid-tier insurance practice and a large national firm, before moving to specialist aviation and aerospace firm GSG Legal.
Life outside of Sparkes
Outside of work, Kate enjoys exploring the best that Sydney’s restaurants and bars have to offer with friends and loved ones. On a regular Saturday morning you might find her paddling on Sydney Harbour with 19 other dragon boaters or at the gym, lying on a beach with a good book, sipping coffee at one of Darlinghurst’s many cafés before finishing the day with a home-cooked meal and a movie or having a drink or two and a dance on Oxford Street.
