Joanne Yu

What she does

Joanne advises clients on managing and resolving various liability claims, insurance policy wording, and indemnity claims. She deals primarily with litigated matters and has particular experience in acting for insurers and their clients in defence of personal injury claims.

She has achieved successful settlements at various stages of a claim and also has experience in running matters to trial. She regularly appears in the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria and County Court of Victoria.

Joanne works with Australian and international insurers, brokers, underwriters and their insured entities.

Qualifications

Joanne has a Bachelor of Laws (with Honours) from Monash University and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the College of Law.

Life before Sparkes

Joanne started her legal career as a paralegal at a national plaintiff law firm before moving to a large international commercial law firm. She then joined Sparke Helmore as a junior lawyer in May 2017.

Life outside of Sparkes

When not keeping up with her young son, Joanne can be found enjoying good food and a drink (or two), spending time with her senior poodle, and tending to her not-so-little collection of indoor plants. She loves travelling and finds great joy when she discovers delicious cuisine in a new country.
