Jenna is a mining and resources lawyer who works between our Newcastle and Muswellbrook offices, in the heart of the Hunter Valley coalfields. She advises clients on mining, planning, environment, property, water and commercial law.
What she does
Jenna assists clients to secure approvals for exploration, mining and mining-related purposes. She advises on a broad range of operational matters, including tenement management and applications, and environmental regulation and compliance. Jenna is also involved in drafting and advising on commercial agreements, including for land access and compensation, options and acquisitions, and neighbour mine agreements.
Who she works with
Jenna works with mining companies and liaises with general managers, environment and approval managers, property managers and in-house legal teams. Her work also involves regular contact with officers of government departments, including the Division of Resources and Geoscience, and the Department of Primary Industries—Lands and Water NSW.
Qualifications
Jenna holds a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours) and Bachelor of Arts from the Australian National University. She is also a member of the Australian Mining and Petroleum Lawyers Association.
Life before Sparkes
Jenna joined Sparke Helmore in January 2010. Before then, she was a volunteer paralegal with the Environmental Defender's Office in Canberra and completed an internship with Rio Tinto at one of its Hunter Valley coal mines.
Life outside of Sparkes
Jenna loves to travel and explore new places to learn more about its history and culture. She is a keen hockey player, sports fan, and avid supporter of the Sydney Swans and Newcastle Knights.
