Jake is a litigator and administrative law specialist, who advises and appears as solicitor advocate for Commonwealth Government agencies in administrative law litigation. With more than 13 years’ experience, including time spent undertaking several Commonwealth secondments, Jake has an excellent appreciation of the complexities of government decision making and is regularly sought out to advise on matters of complexity.
What he does
Jake regularly appears as a solicitor advocate in the Federal Court and Federal Circuit and Family Court in judicial review proceedings, as well as the Administrative Review Tribunal in merits review proceedings. His work also includes advising on the interpretation and application of legislation, litigation strategy, decision making and regulatory processes.
Jake is also an experienced presenter of legal training.

Qualifications
Jake holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Business degrees from the Queensland University of Technology. He completed his Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice with the College of Law.
Life before Sparkes
Jake started his career as a Federal Prosecutor at the Office of the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions. He then joined the Department of Home Affairs as a legal officer, before joining Sparke Helmore in 2015.
Life outside of Sparkes
Jake is currently in his ‘running era’, and having run two half marathons, aims to one day be able to run a marathon. He also enjoys travelling to new countries in Europe, but is never able to resist the temptation of exploring his heritage on the Greek islands during summer.
