Jack is a specialist workplace lawyer, assisting clients navigate complex employment, industrial relations and WHS issues, in both litigious and general advisory contexts.
What he does
Jack advises clients on the interpretation of awards and enterprise agreements, enterprise bargaining strategy and the making of enterprise agreements (including better off overall test calculations), managing the disciplinary and termination process, and managing ill and injured employees. He is adept at defending unfair dismissal and general protections applications, often involving complex factual backgrounds and emotionally charged applicants.
Who he works with
Jack works with Legal, HR and WHS teams in a variety of industries including the waste management, meat, sugar, manufacturing, transport, construction, hospitality, retail, and health industries, as well as local government and the public sector.
Qualifications
Jack holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Business (Finance) from the Queensland University of Technology.
Life before Sparkes
Jack has worked in the employment and industrial relations space for over 11 years, and prior to joining Sparke Helmore, he worked as an industrial advocate and organiser with a trade union, giving him a unique insight into the pressure points that play out in the workplace, at the bargaining table, and in the industrial tribunals.
Life outside of Sparkes
Outside of work, Jack is kept busy trying to keep up with his young kids, swinging a golf club (poorly), cheering on the mighty Brisbane Lions, and testing out his culinary skills.
