Arelene joined the Insurance Statutory Lines team as a partner in our Northern Territory team, in July 2022. She has more than 20 years’ experience and specialises in workers’ compensation, administrative law, insurance and motor vehicle accidents, including specific conduct of all aspects of catastrophic claims involving serious injuries, as well as complex medical, quantum and intricate liability issues.
What she does
Arelene manages matters with significant volumes of documentation, with an attention to detail that allows proactive matter management and early claims resolution—where appropriate—despite the inherent complexity. She has a comprehensive understanding of incident and accident reconstruction, engineering concepts and difficult quantum analysis.
Arelene has extensive knowledge advising on and commencing proceedings for recovering of money in workers’ compensation and motor vehicle accident claims in the Northern Territory. She has also defended class actions in the Federal Court of Australia.
Who she works with
Arelene acts for compensation insurers, state and territory government departments, local councils and compulsory third-party insurers.
Qualifications
Arelene has a Bachelor of Commerce / Bachelor of Laws from the University of New England.
Life before Sparkes
Before joining Sparke Helmore, Arelene worked at a number of top tier law firms. She also spent three years as Director & Senior Lawyer at the Australian Government Solicitor in Darwin.
Life outside of Sparkes
Arelene is a proud “soccer Mum” who enjoys travelling and spending time with family and friends in both populated and remote regional areas off the beaten track.
