Alan is an Accredited Specialist in Local Government & Planning Law who regularly advises government, mining companies and property developers on all aspects of environmental, planning and mining law issues.

Alan has extensive litigation in the Land and Environment Court conducting merit appeals, judicial review, civil enforcement, criminal proceedings and claims for compensation under the Land Acquisition (Just Terms Compensation) Act. He has been involved in many of the significant urban renewal projects in the Newcastle CBD and works across a wide range of project types for both Councils and property developers.

He is the current Service Line Leader of Sparke Helmore’s Planning, Environment and Local Government practice and the vice chair of the Hunter Chapter of the Urban Development Institute of Australia.
