Support careersLegal secretariesAt Sparkes, secretaries are very much an integral part of our legal teams. They are regularly involved in matters handled by our lawyers, including direct liaison with clients. As such, they play an important and highly proactive role. Each practice group has a nominated Secretarial Coordinator who monitors and regulates the workflow within the practice group, there is a word processing operators pool available to all practice groups, and floater (relief) secretaries who assist lawyers and secretarial staff with overload. Sparkes is not necessarily looking for individuals who have previously worked in a legal environment; rather we are looking for those with the right attitude and skills for the role. The qualities we look for in our potential recruits are strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to working as part of a team, initiative and the ability to find solutions to problems or challenging situations. Word processingOur word processing operators work in regular shifts in our Brisbane, Newcastle and Sydney offices, servicing the firm nationally. Opportunities to improve both technical and interpersonal skills are provided through in-house technology and other non-technical skill training.
