Vanessa Finlayson

What she does

Having worked on numerous blameless accident and novel claims, Vanessa focuses on providing advice on risk and exposure while developing strategies to minimise claims cost. She has a particular interest in negotiation strategies, early resolution and fraud claims, and a keen eye for assessing quantum and investigating interesting liability and medical issues, as well as defending nominal defendant claims.

One of Vanessa’s strengths is her ability to foster strong relationships. She takes pride in working with clients, colleagues and opponents with integrity and respect. This has resulted in the development of relationships of trust and to the benefit of all parties in negotiations.

Throughout her career Vanessa has worked with major NSW and interstate insurers and claims management practitioners.

Qualifications

Vanessa holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Graduate Diploma in Practical Legal Training. She is also an Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury. 

Life before Sparkes

Before she studied law, Vanessa’s passion was makeup—in fact, she was tossing up between becoming a makeup artist or lawyer when she decided on the latter. Before joining Sparke Helmore, Vanessa worked at Curwoods Lawyers for 10 years.

Life outside of Sparkes

Vanessa’s enthusiasm for makeup has not waned, having completed a certificate in makeup application and “practising” whenever the opportunity arises. Her other passion is people and she adores her tiny toddler. At the end of a long day, Vanessa loves relaxing in the steam room and indulging her weakness for chocolate.
