Matthew is an experienced banking and finance lawyer across a range of industries and the full range of debt products, with a focus on business banking, real estate finance, leveraged and acquisition finance, food & beverage, construction, project and infrastructure, and asset finance. Matthew also has expertise in cross-border club and syndicated financings as well as security and restructuring issues, including intercreditor and subordination arrangements.

Matthew advises banks, non-bank lenders and borrowers on Australian domestic and cross border financings.

Matthew acts for retail and investment banks, non-bank lenders, listed and unlisted funds, sponsors and other corporates or investment vehicles.
Qualifications
Matthew has a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of Sydney, and a Master of Laws from the London School of Economics.
Life before Sparkes
Matthew re-joined Sparke Helmore in 2022, having also previously worked for Middletons (now K&L Gates), DWF, and HWL Ebsworth. Matthew also has managerial and company secretary experience for an industry association.
