James is a litigator with experience advising insurers, government agencies and insured clients on indemnity disputes as well as broad-based litigation, including general liability, professional indemnity and intentional tort claims.
In 2018, James won the Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 award for the Insurance category.
James regularly defends medium to large-scale litigated claims for insurers, insureds and government agencies before the District Court, Supreme Court and Court of Appeal.
He also conducts subrogated recovery actions for insurers in property and motor disputes, and advises government agencies on construction-based recovery actions.
James works with Australian insurers, London-based underwriters and government agencies.
James holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Technology Sydney.
Before joining Sparke Helmore in February 2013, James worked at a national law firm focusing on plaintiff liability and commercial claims.
James is originally from Central-West New South Wales. He takes every opportunity to escape the city and either head back home, travel country New South Wales or discover new places abroad. James is a keen follower of Rugby Union and AFL, and spends his Thursday evenings playing centre in a vigorous local mixed netball competition.
