Phillip Salem appointed Sparke Helmore's State & Territory Government Leader
24-May-2022Sparke Helmore is pleased to announce that Phillip Salem has been appointed State & Territory Government Leader, a newly created leadership position within the firm’s Government Practice Group.
The primary focus of the role will be to develop coordinated state and territory government practices in all Sparke Helmore’s jurisdictions with a particular focus on New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and the Northern Territory. Phillip’s extensive experience in acting for Commonwealth and local government clients on significant matters and major projects means that he is also able to assist those clients at the highest level.
Phillip was a Partner in the firm’s Government Practice Group before taking on the role of National Managing Partner in 2016, a role he recently stepped away from in order to go back to his government roots.
Roland Hassall, Sparke Helmore’s Chair, said of Phillip, “Phillip led the firm as National Managing Partner for six years and did so with a great deal of energy, courage and commitment – particularly through the last two challenging years. The firm evolved and prospered under his wise leadership and I’m very pleased that Phillip will be taking on this pivotal role in one of the key pillars of the firm’s growth strategy. It made perfect sense for us to make best use of Phillip’s outstanding credentials and strong and very senior connections across governments.”
Phillip will take up the role immediately and will be based in Sydney.
