Yolanda is a Special Counsel in the Government, Public and Regulatory team. She is an experienced health care, aged care and disability lawyer with experience including General Counsel of Aspen Medical and General Counsel of Health Direct and a senior executive service lawyer in the Victorian Department of Health. Yolanda was a Registered Nurse for more than 20 years and specialised in clinical governance, including commissioning statutory root cause analysis investigations into serious clinical incidents.
What she does
Yolanda advises and appears for Commonwealth agencies in dispute resolution and litigation matters before the Administrative Review Tribunal. Before this, Yolanda provided commercial, corporate governance, employment and health law advice in both the private and the public sectors. Yolanda loves to give practical advice in plain English.
Who she works with
Yolanda has worked for privately owned companies providing services in Australia and overseas. She has extensive experience working with government and non-government clients.
Qualifications
Yolanda holds a Juris Doctor from the Sydney University of Technology and a Bachelor of Applied Science (Nursing) from the University of Canberra.
Life before Sparkes
Yolanda has enjoyed working in the health, aged care and disability space. She has provided advice in high pressure situations, including providing advice to the Australian and UK Governments on the mobilisation to Sierra Leone of the first international Ebola treatment centre, and working with the World Health Organisation and the United Nations on the establishment of a trauma centre in Iraq for the Iraqi army’s offensive into Mosal.
Life outside of Sparkes
Yolanda loves to spend time with her three children and swim in the ocean. She enjoys bareboat chartering, both in Australia and overseas. Yolanda also enjoys savouring a good glass of wine.
