Michael is an experienced senior insurance litigation lawyer representing and advising clients on all aspects of litigated and unlitigated claims. He is known for his negotiating and alternative dispute resolution skills.

Michael is a specialist at defending insurance claims, including personal injury, intentional tort, public and occupiers’ liability, property damage and recovery actions.
Who he works with
Michael advises local, national and global insurers, self-insureds and government on all aspects of claim management and strategy.
Qualifications
Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours), a Bachelor of Laws and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Australian National University, Canberra.
Life before Sparkes
Michael has practised in a diversity of areas since his admission in July 1996, including workers compensation, dust diseases, public liability and intentional torts. Prior to joining Sparke Helmore in July 2025, Michael was a Principal practitioner in the Casualty and Insurance team at a respected national law firm.
Life outside of Sparkes
Michael enjoys spending time with his partner, family and friends. He is a keen traveller and supports the Canberra Raiders NRL team.
