Ian is an experienced administrative lawyer, having spent over a decade delivering legal services to the Commonwealth Government. Ian specialises in privacy and secrecy law, as well as government regulatory law and administrative decision-making.
What he does
Ian supports his clients to ensure compliance with relevant laws, including information law. He regularly advises on lawful information access regimes, including surveillance legislation and freedom of information laws. Ian also supports Commonwealth agencies to manage their response to data breaches and their engagement with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Ian predominantly works with Commonwealth and State Government entities.
Qualifications
Ian holds a Master of Laws from the Australian National University and a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Technology, Sydney.
Life before Sparkes
Prior to joining Sparke Helmore, Ian was an in-house lawyer at various Commonwealth departments including the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Department of Home Affairs and the Department of Defence.
Life outside of Sparkes
Outside of Sparkes, Ian enjoys travelling and skiing. Ian is an NRL fan and supports the Penrith Panthers.
