Heather has a wealth of commercial law experience and has expertise in the provision of corporate, commercial and property legal services. Heather is an Accredited Specialist in Business Law from the Queensland Law Society and is a Member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Notaries.
What she does
Heather has over 20 years’ experience in commercial/business law. She has provided advice on a range of commercial matters across a range of industries and areas including:
- Mergers and acquisitions—complex contract negotiations, due diligence, and corporate governance.
- General contract arrangements—supply and contractual arrangements for manufacturers and suppliers both in and outside Australia.
- Entity establishment and ongoing development—company structure, related party arrangements, ongoing development.
- Intellectual property—including the registration and opposition of trademarks.
- Australian Consumer Law, PPSA and Privacy legislation—compliance matters.
- Property transactions—buying, selling, joint venture, and financing arrangements.
- Franchise arrangements—establishment and management of franchise businesses.
- Private client - business succession—ongoing business structure, governance, transition to ‘retirement’, wills, and trust arrangements.
- Not for profit organisations—governance, board related matters.
- General commercial disputes.
Who she works with
Heather principally works for private clients and not-for-profit organisations across industries including medical, maritime, retail, property, quick service retail, metal recycling, insurance, and medicinal cannabis supply.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and a Bachelor of Science (Environmental Science) from Griffith University. Accredited Specialist (Business Law) from the Queensland Law Society and a Member of The Australian and New Zealand College of Notaries.
Life before Sparkes
Heather’s most recent role was as Managing Director of Woods Price Lawyers, a firm she had been with for 10 years prior to merging the practice with Sparke Helmore.
Life outside of Sparkes
Heather spends her time outside work wishing that she had more time but knowing that she would probably spend it working. She prioritises family, taking immense pride in the reflection of values and hope for the future embodied in her daughters, so what time she does have she spends with them—sharing home-cooked meals, work-out routines, and skipping playlists.
