Edward is an experienced commercial and insurance lawyer specialising in cyber risk.
Having worked in Sydney, London and New York, Edward has deep local and global subject-matter expertise on privacy, data protection, cybersecurity risks and cyber insurance.
Edward is a senior leader in the Cyber Insurance practice.
He works with clients on managing their privacy, data-protection and cybersecurity risks, including developing incident response and data security plans and policies, providing training, and advising on third-party risk. He assists clients to respond to incidents and represents them in subsequent disputes and investigations. He also works with local and international insurers on policy wordings, coverage and localisation.
In addition to his cyber work, Edward is an experienced litigator, specialising in coverage disputes, and defence and recovery litigation across several other insurance classes, including professional indemnity, general and product liability, and construction and contract works.
Edward works with corporates, government, and Australian and international insurers, reinsurers and brokers.
Edward has a Bachelor of Arts and a Juris Doctor from the University of Technology Sydney.
Before re-joining Sparke Helmore in 2020, Edward worked in New York as a senior cybersecurity and privacy consultant at a Big Four firm, and senior counsel and director at a Fortune 500 multi-national fashion group, responsible for managing the group’s privacy risk globally. Earlier in his career, Edward worked at Sparke Helmore in the Commercial Insurance team, an international firm, and a leading global legal know-how provider in the United Kingdom focusing on information technology, data protection and telecommunications laws.
Edward enjoys travelling and seeing as much of the world as he can, but his favourite place to visit is the NSW South Coast with family and friends. He loves to play and watch sport, and spend time outdoors.
