David is a planning, environment and local government lawyer with a particular focus on litigation in the Land and Environment Court in the Court’s Class 1 (development appeals), Class 3 (compulsory acquisition of land), Class 4 (judicial review and civil enforcement) and Class 5 (criminal) jurisdiction and advising local governments about its statutory functions, powers and responsibilities.
What he does
David practices in all aspects of environmental, planning and local government law. He acts for public and private clients in the Land and Environment Court on issues associated with planning approvals, the compulsory acquisition of land and the civil and criminal enforcement of environmental laws.
Who he works with
David works with metropolitan and regional Councils, property developers and private and state-owned corporations.
Qualifications
David has a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours/Class 1) from the University of Newcastle.
Life before Sparkes
Before joining Sparkes in 2021 David worked in Sydney practicing in planning and environmental law.
Life outside of Sparkes
David enjoys playing football, gardening, hiking and diving in his spare time.
