About Andrew

Andrew, the National Service Line Leader of our Mining & Resources team, is an outcome-driven lawyer who focuses on helping mining companies achieve operable, workable and defendable mining approvals platforms. He's a big believer in taking responsibility for getting results and is known for his honest, practical approach.

What he does

Andrew is immersed in the industry he advises and the community in which it operates. His local knowledge and technical expertise, together with his experience in advising on projects across the Hunter, Newcastle, Southern, Western and Gunnedah coalfields, means he understands what's needed, what's approvable and what's achievable to get a mine producing as quickly as possible.

Andrew also focuses on coordinating all of an approvals platform's elements and works effectively with regulators, environmental consultants and operational teams to make that happen. This approach minimises the time it takes to get an approvals platform in place and avoids gaps, which can leave a project susceptible to challenge from opponents.

Who he works with

By working closely with general managers, environment managers, property managers and in-house legal teams, he helps miners deftly navigate issues such as the conflict between different land uses, the evolving water regulations, an increasing layer of federal government involvement and the need for agricultural impact statements.

Andrew completed a Bachelors of Laws and Arts at Sydney University in 1989 and was admitted to practice in 1990.
