About Valentina

Valentina has more than 17 years' experience as a corporate, commercial and tax lawyer, and is admitted as a solicitor and barrister in Australia and New Zealand. She primarily advises multinational corporate entities on a range of corporate and commercial matters, structures, transactions, mergers and acquisitions, litigation and intellectual property matters, and on taxation law (Chartered Tax Advisor).

What she does

Valentina is a consultant to Sparke Helmore with a focus on key relationships with clients across the corporate, media, film, sports and entertainment industries. She is Chair of the firm's Sports and Entertainment Law practice. 

Valentina was previously General Counsel (Australia and New Zealand) for a preeminent professional body—Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand—and is now Chairman of the Confederation of Australian Motor Sports Foundation, NBL Aspire (a subsidiary of the NBL), The Australian Ballet Ambassadorship Committee and Contango Global Growth—a publicly listed investment company. She is Managing Director of Black Book Management Pty Ltd and sits on the boards of the GWS Giants Foundation, Australasian Football Institute, Australasian Football Foundation and SP7 Management Pty Ltd. She is also a member of the Black and White Committee (for Vision Australia) and a Patron of the Taronga Zoo.


Who she works with

Valentina advises national and multinational (outbound/inbound) corporates and has advised across a diverse range of industries, including mining, finance, airlines, retail and manufacturing, property and construction, equity and capital markets and private equity. She also advises trusts, superannuation funds and high net worth individuals, including in the sports, entertainment and film industries on a range of matters, including commercial deals, crisis management and brand protection.

Work done recently

Valentina holds a Bachelor Law/Arts and Master of Laws from the University of Melbourne, where she also completed the Leadership Program (Mt Eliza/Melbourne Business School).

Valentina is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), a Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA) of The Tax Institute, and is also a member of the Law Society of NSW, Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) and Women on Boards.

Life before Sparkes

Valentina started her career in private practice as a corporate and international tax lawyer with KPMG, Phillips Fox, Corrs and Minter Ellison where she advised most of Australia's top 200 companies as well as global and offshore companies. As well as having held corporate/commercial advisory, management and leadership roles and founded a successful management business, Valentina has worked in-house for a property and construction multinational and a professional membership body.

Valentina has been involved in the sports, film and entertainment space throughout her career and continues to do so via her board, legal management and mentoring roles.

Life outside of Sparkes

Having grown up in Melbourne, Valentina loves AFL as well as soccer and cricket (and sport in general). On a weekend, you will likely find her at a sporting event, usually with champagne in hand talking sport (both the game and business of). She has a healthy obsession with pilates, yoga, and shoes.
