Valentina has more than 17 years' experience as a corporate, commercial and tax lawyer, and is admitted as a solicitor and barrister in Australia and New Zealand. She primarily advises multinational corporate entities on a range of corporate and commercial matters, structures, transactions, mergers and acquisitions, litigation and intellectual property matters, and on taxation law (Chartered Tax Advisor).
Valentina is a consultant to Sparke Helmore’s corporate and tax areas with a focus on key relationships with clients across the corporate, media, film, sports and entertainment industries. She is Chair of the firm's Sports and Entertainment Law practice.
Valentina was previously General Counsel (Australia and New Zealand) for a pre-eminent professional body—Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand—and is now Chairman of an ASX listed company, Chairman of the Charlie Teo Foundation and Chairman of the Australasian Football Institute, Managing Director of Black Book Management Pty Ltd, Principal of legal practice Black Book Legal, an Ambassador and member of the ‘Ambassador Board’ of The Australian Ballet, an Ambassador of the GWS Giants Football Club and an Executive Patron of the Taronga Conservation Society/Zoo.
Valentina advises national and multinational (outbound/inbound) corporates and has advised across a diverse range of industries, including mining, finance, airlines, retail and manufacturing, property and construction, equity and capital markets and private equity. She also advises trusts, superannuation funds and high net worth individuals, including in the sports, entertainment and film industries, on a range of matters, including corporate/commercial, taxation, intellectual property, PR, crisis management and brand protection.
Valentina holds a Bachelor Law/Arts and Master of Laws from the University of Melbourne, where she also completed the Leadership Program (Mt Eliza/Melbourne Business School).
Valentina is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), a Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA) of The Tax Institute, and is also a member of the Law Society of NSW and Women on Boards.
Valentina started her career in private practice as a corporate and international tax lawyer with KPMG, Phillips Fox, Corrs and Minter Ellison where she advised most of Australia's top 200 companies as well as global and offshore companies. As well as having held corporate/commercial advisory, management and leadership roles and founded a successful management business, Valentina has worked in-house for a property and construction multinational and a professional membership body as General Counsel and Head of Professional Conduct and Discipline.
Valentina has been involved in the sports, film and entertainment industry throughout her career and continues to do so via her board, agency, legal management and advisory
Having grown up in Melbourne, Valentina loves AFL as well as soccer and cricket (and sport in general). On a weekend, you will likely find her at a sporting event, usually with champagne in hand talking sport (both the game and business of). She has a healthy obsession with pilates, yoga, and shoes.
