Philip has over 35 years’ experience in the insurance industry, as a solicitor, barrister and claims handler. Admitted in several Australian jurisdictions, he is a litigation specialist with superior court/tribunal trial, appeal and mediation exposure involving white-collar and construction professionals.
Philip acts largely on instructions for one or multiple complex features, including high value and publicity sensitive claims, promptly evaluating circumstances of disputes on policy coverage or liability. He determines the legal and strategic potential alternatives from start to conclusion, takes personal responsibility for implementation and resolution, and protects and promotes the legal and reputational positions of stakeholders.
Philip works with claims handlers and managers for professional and commercial risks and their insureds at senior and board level and brokers.
Philip holds a Bachelor of Jurisprudence and Bachelor of Laws (University of Western Australia).
Philip has enjoyed over 25 years with prominent practices providing dispute resolution, litigation and contentious insurance advice and representation to corporate, banking and underwriting clients. He also spent approximately five years as a claims’ solicitor with Law Claims and Suncorp (in Queensland).
Philip practises Mediterranean slow food cuisine with his two daughters and wife; still sings badly to 60s and 70s music (Motown to punk); watches any films with novice excitement; celebrates enthusiastically rare Scottish sporting success; enjoys an occasional museum escape and is a recovering football fan (Nottingham Forest 1971-2021).
