Murray is a specialised insurance, public liability and personal injury litigation lawyer with more than 13 years' legal experience. He contributes comprehensive expertise to matters involving general indemnity insurance, liability claims, interpretation of multi-jurisdictional policy and legislation, drafting complex legal instruments and the development of innovative and effective resolution strategies.
Murray has a proven ability to efficiently manage and resolve complex matters and has an extensive background in personal injury, coronial inquests and medical law, including high value claims involving traumatic/acquired brain injuries.
Murray's legal experience ranges from the litigated to the un-litigated and spans multiple jurisdictions (NSW, Qld, Vic., ACT and SA). His practice has a particular focus on defence of public liability claims for national and international insurers, and provision of coverage advice for first and third party property damage claims, as well as defence of intentional tort claims.
Murray is an Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury Law. His previous experience working on the plaintiff side of litigation affords him an invaluable insight into both sides of a dispute. This is a skill that enables him to apply a unique perspective into the resolution of disputes and obtain effective results for his clients.
Murray acts for local and international insurers, including specialised insurers and international brokerages. He also has experience acting for institutional insurers and international logistics companies with self-insured retentions.
Murray holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Biomedical Science from the University of Newcastle.
He is an Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury Law (medical negligence) and is a member of the Australian Insurance Lawyers Association and Claims Discussion Group.
Murray gained experience working in a range of insurance law firms before re-joining Sparke Helmore in 2018. Most recently, he worked at RGSLAW (a boutique insurance law firm in Sydney), DLA Piper and Maurice Blackburn Lawyers where he acted for injured plaintiffs.
Murray grew up on Norfolk Island and has a consequential love of the rural life and the outdoors. He also fancies himself as a bit of a foodie. When he is not at work, he can be found fishing, playing golf or cooking up a storm on his BBQ.
