About Julie

Julie is a highly experienced professional indemnity insurance lawyer. She was named Adelaide's Insurance Lawyer of the Year in 2012 by Australian Financial Review Best Lawyers and has been acknowledged as one of Australia's leading Insurance lawyers since 2011.

Julie is the immediate past Chair of the South Australian chapter of the Australian Insurance Law Association (AILA) and was awarded the 2017 AILA Life Membership for her significant contribution to the Association's development in SA.

What she does

Julie represents insured professionals and organisations under both individual policies and scheme arrangements in the defence of negligence claims and works with insurers on policy coverage advice and disputes.
Julie has also advised corporate entities on insurance and indemnity clauses in contracts, as well as directors and officers (D&O).

Who she works with

Julie acts for a number of Lloyd's syndicates, overseas and Australian insurers, claims management agencies and insured organisations that manage their own claims within deductible levels.

Julie has a Bachelor of Arts (Juris) and Bachelor of Laws (Hons) degree from Adelaide University. She is admitted to the SA Supreme Court and the High Court of Australia.

Life before Sparkes

Julie spent her first 18 months after being admitted working in a civil litigation practice before moving to the private sector where she worked for a number of years as the Adelaide professional lines claims manager for Sedgwick Limited (now part of Marsh Australia).

Before joining Sparke Helmore, Julie was a lead partner in the professional indemnity practice at a commercial law firm in Adelaide.

Life outside of Sparkes

Julie enjoys spending time with her family, especially at the Murray River, and water skiing (badly), good food and wine and cooking. She also follows English and European football and is developing an appreciation of cricket, having now mastered the skill of scoring a cricket game.
