Gillad is an experienced banking and finance lawyer with a long track record of advising banks and financial institutions on all types of transactions across the banking and financial services, commodities and agribusiness sectors. Gillad works closely with his banking clients to ensure they receive excellent legal advice and is mindful of the complex regulatory and sometimes political environment in which they operate.
Gillad's speciality is complex corporate workouts and restructuring, where he focuses on attaining the best commercial outcome for his clients in often difficult negotiations. He has advised banks on some of the most significant Australian restructurings.
Gillad also has significant experience in structured and project finance, and trade and commodity finance. He helped one of Australia's largest banks establish its Commodity Finance business in Australia and has advised on many significant structured trade transactions, including a world-first syndication of a repo arrangement in commodities for the four main Australian banks.
Gillad has been profiled as an experienced banking and finance lawyer in the AFR's Best Lawyers in Australia list, IFLR 1000 and Asia Pacific Legal 500.
With close to 25 years of banking and finance experience, Gillad has become a trusted advisor to several of the major Australian and international banks.
Gillad holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts from Monash University, and is a member of the Law Institute of Victoria.
Gillad began his legal career at Minter Ellison, before joining Baker & McKenzie where he became a partner at the age of 28. He then moved to Deacons, which merged with Norton Rose Fulbright, and most recently was a partner HWL Ebsworth.
Outside of work, Gillad loves the outdoors and keeping fit and healthy. He travels extensively and enjoys his time with his four children.
