Sparke Helmore Lawyers has been acknowledged for its outstanding commitment to gender equity in the workplace, being awarded both the Gender Equity Champions Award and Workplace Flexibility Champions Award at the 2016 Hunter Diversity Awards.

The Awards were announced at an International Women's Day breakfast on Friday 4 March, which also featured a "closing the gap" panel discussion with industry leaders including Sparke Helmore Chairman Mark Hickey.

The panel was an opportunity for businesses to talk about the challenges faced by organisations in achieving gender equity and facilitated dialogue on ways to address these challenges such as through accessing online resources, community collaboration and implementing programs that promote flexibility and inclusivity.

"Our firm is dedicated to achieving equity not just in the workplace but also in the wider community," said Mark.

"We are always looking for innovative ways to support women of the firm and community, whether it be through flexible work opportunities or initiatives such as the Six Degrees women's network and Lucy Mentoring Program. We are proud that we are leading the way for other businesses to champion this cause."

The Awards are an initiative of the Equal Futures Project, which is a grassroots organisation made up of Hunter business leaders raising awareness of, and funds for, gender equity in the region.
