On Thursday 5 November, Sparke Helmore's Newcastle office hosted the Hunter Business Chamber's (HBC) Hunter First members lunch, with Senator Arthur Sinodinos—Cabinet Secretary in the Turnbull Government—as the guest speaker.

The lunch was an opportunity for the 55 Hunter First members, who represent prominent businesses in the Hunter Region, to hear from Senator Sinodinos on the early days of the Turnbull Government and his thoughts on the future direction of the region. He highlighted three key themes for the region moving forward—innovation, competitiveness and the new world of work.

"The Hunter First members lunch was an excellent opportunity for key businesses in the region to find out the Government's plans for supporting the Hunter's growth and to discuss how they can leverage these initiatives to benefit their business, Chamber members and the wider community," said Richard Anicich, Partner in Sparke Helmore's Commercial Group.

As part of Hunter First, members get the chance to regularly engage with key government and business leaders about significant issues affecting their businesses and the region.

In turn, the Hunter First memberships support the Hunter Business Chamber to provide advice, advocacy and events for the wider Chamber community. Alongside Sparke Helmore, Hunter First members include Hunter Water Corporation, Coal & Allied, Glencore, Centennial Coal, the Newcastle Herald, the University of Newcastle, PricewaterhouseCoopers and the Port of Newcastle.
