Sparke Helmore is delighted to welcome four senior lawyers, including Partner Catherine Power.  In all, six lawyers are joining our Insurance team based in Canberra, with expertise spanning commercial insurance, public liability, professional indemnity, medical negligence, CTP and workers compensation.

Joining Catherine are Special Counsel Jessica Bristol, who works in the area of commercial insurance and CTP, and another Special Counsel who specialises in ACT workers compensation and WHS working for private and public sector clients (starting in March). Also joining the team is Consultant Colin Blain who is highly regarded for his work in CTP, commercial and general insurance.

"I'm so pleased that Catherine has returned to the firm as she's someone we all enjoyed working with for years," said James Johnson, Sparke Helmore's National Insurance Group Leader. "Her legal standing and abilities also mean she will play a key role in growing our insurance services in Canberra and the wider firm. We're also really excited to have lawyers of the calibre of Jessica and Colin joining (and in Jessica's case re-joining) our team in Canberra. In my opinion, with our strengthened team comprising 17 lawyers, we now have one of the strongest insurance offerings in the Canberra market."

Catherine advises large insurers and the Commonwealth Government on commercial insurance litigation in areas including public liability, professional indemnity and medical negligence. She also has significant expertise in CTP and major claims.

"I'm looking forward to re-establishing my relationships with colleagues and clients at Sparke Helmore and building on opportunities in the commercial insurance space," said Catherine.

Catherine has more than 15 years' experience in insurance litigation and was acknowledged in the 2015 Best Lawyers list for Insurance. Before re-joining Sparke Helmore, Catherine was Location Head and a partner in the Litigation and Regulatory team in DLA Piper's Canberra office. Colin is an insurance industry veteran in the ACT and was a former partner at Abbott Tout.

Catherine is also passionate about supporting women to achieve career benchmarks while working flexibly and supports gender pay equality.
