Sparke Helmore Lawyers announces that Jesse Webb, the firm's National Managing Partner, will be stepping down from the role and returning to practice insurance law on 28 February 2016. Phillip Salem, who is currently a Board Member, will become the firm's National Managing Partner on 1 March 2016. Jesse and Phillip will work together during this period to enable a smooth and managed transition.
"After almost seven years in the role of National Managing Partner, I have decided to return to practice. During my time in this role, the firm has grown and prospered in difficult market conditions. I am proud of everything we have achieved, including seeing annual revenue increase by 22%, significant improvements in staff engagement survey results and pro bono hours worked, having a number of high quality partners join the firm and many lawyers of exceptional ability being promoted to partnership. While it's been an honour to lead the firm, I'm looking forward to practising in the area of State Workers' Compensation again," said Jesse.
Phillip leads the firm's national Government Commercial team and advises governments on high profile and complex projects spanning major procurement projects to Commissions of Inquiry and government asset sales. He is consistently ranked in the AFR's Australian Best Lawyers list for Government. Phillip became a member of the firm's Board in December 2014 and was also the firm's Chairman from 2009 to 2012.
"As the incoming National Managing Partner, I plan to build on the firm's successes by maintaining a focus on growth and the pursuit of our strategy. I look forward to working alongside Jesse during the next few months to ensure a seamless transition," said Phillip.
The firm's Chairman, Mark Hickey, said: "I congratulate Phillip on his appointment and want to express my thanks to Jesse for his significant contribution and personal commitment to the firm as our National Managing Partner. I look forward to working with Phillip to implement our growth strategy. Additionally, the firm will benefit from Jesse's experience and reputation as an excellent insurance lawyer when he resumes practice next year."
