For the past two years, the Sparke Helmore Newcastle office has been a sponsor of the Hunter Young Professionals (HYP). HYP is a membership organisation in Newcastle that provides opportunities for young professionals to network in a business environment, gain new management and leadership skills, interact socially together as well as support the local community so that they can develop into the business leaders of tomorrow.

In November the Newcastle office continued to support young professionals in the business community by sponsoring the HYP event at Merewether Surfhouse which was attended by around 100 young professionals from the Hunter region.

The topic “Contributing to your future” centred on buying and owning a home in the local property market.  From disputes with neighbours, the state of housing affordability in Newcastle, what suburbs are on the rise as well as what the future holds, the knowledgeable line up of industry experts provided some great insights and tips.

The key speaker at the event was Sparke Helmores Special Counsel Naomi Simmons of the Planning, Environment and Local Government team. Naomi gave a great presentation on the things that you should consider before buying a property.  Following her presentation, Naomi was part of a panel that included Professor Will Rifkin, Director, Hunter Research Foundation, Mark Kentwell, Founding Director of PRD Nationwide and Scott Pfeiffer, Property Investment Specialist of Pfeiffer property.  Together the four panellists answered all the burning questions from the audience about buying and owning a home in Newcastle.
