Michael Dwyer

Partner

Michael is the Adelaide Managing Partner and heads up the personal injury group in SA/NT. He has over twelve years' experience in personal injuries litigation and insurance litigation, including public liability, insurance, workers compensation and common law industrial accident litigation, occupational health and safety and risk management, dust diseases and commercial litigation.

He also practises in the workplace relations area and works in the New South Wales, South Australian, Northern Territory and Commonwealth jurisdiction.

Michael specialises in industrial accident litigation for employers, self insurers, specialist insurers, public and statutory authorities including local municipalities and semi-government authorities and acts for some of the largest companies in Australia in both state and federal jurisdictions. He is experienced in the negotiated settlement of matters using ADR facilities and informal settlement conferences. He has extensive experience in managing tail claims and claims that have been lodged against companies in administration.

Michael has also been involved in the development and implementation of claims management programs and programs focusing on liability minimisation. He is involved in major litigation involving multiple parties and catastrophic injuries and has a focus on negotiating advantageous settlements in appropriate cases that include appropriate deeds to preclude further litigation in other jurisdictions. Michael provides advice and training to employers and insurers on claims management and risk management to assist in dispute prevention and resolution.

Michael has extensive experience in running matters in the Workers Compensation Commission. He regularly attends the Workers Compensation Tribunal in SA and the AAT. He has had matters in the NSW District and Supreme Courts and the SA District Court involving a wide range of personal injury and insurance issues. He has appeared in the NSW Dust Diseases Tribunal and is also admitted to the NT Supreme Court as well as the High Court of Australia.

Michael has previously been named a ‘young gun’ by Legal Profiles, Butterworths Publication. Nominated by clients, Michael is regarded as a true expert and highly regarded for his delivery of client service.
