Special Counsel

Joe is a Special Counsel at Sparke Helmore. Joe joined the Firm in 2000 and has been with the Workplace Relations and Safety Group since 2001.

Joe specialises in a broad range of workplace issues, acting primarily on behalf of private sector companies, agencies and government departments. His experience includes advice and representation with:

employee entitlements;
employee misconduct;
termination of employees (for various reasons);
management of injured workers;
employment contracts and disputes (including litigated claims);
workplace policies, agreements and union negotiations;
advice on drug and alcohol testing and regimes;
employee fraud and corruption;
employee privacy issues (including workplace surveillance);
victimisation, bullying, discrimination and harassment;
commissions of inquiry and inquests (ICAC, Coroner etc); and
appeals and judicial review of tribunal decisions.

Joe has considerable experience in a vast range of jurisdictions including: the Industrial Relations Commission and Court of NSW, the Australian Industrial Relations Commission, the Australian Human Rights Commission, the Anti-Discrimination Board of NSW, the Administrative Decisions Tribunal of NSW, the Transport Appeal Boards of New South Wales, the Government and Related Employees Appeal Tribunal, the Federal Court of Australia, the Federal Magistrate’s Court of Australia, the Independent Commission Against Corruption, the Coroner’s Court of NSW, the Supreme Court of NSW, the District Court of NSW and Local Courts.
